Chelsea said in a statement: “If the ticket holder or there are members involved, we will take the strongest possible action against them including providing penalties.”
Chelsea supporter was arrested for alleged racial offenses against Tottenham striker Heung-Min Son in the London derby between Chelsea vs Tottenham on Sunday.
The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which Chelsea won 2-0, was halted in the second half by referee Anthony Taylor due to allegations of racist abuse directed at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.
Meanwhile Tottenham’s investigation into the incident which involved a study of hours of CCTV footage, so far proven “unconvincing”, has now emerged that fans from Chelsesa were expelled and arrested during Premier League matches.
The Metropolitan Police, which is also investigating a case of alleged abuse of Rudiger, confirmed that a supporter was arrested after allegedly violating public order which aggravated racial circumstances, aimed at South Korean Tottenham attacker Heung-Min So.
It is still unclear exactly when the arrest incident occurred, during which the match began to deteriorate, causing Son to be sent off by the referee following a VAR review for kicking Rudiger in the 62nd minute.
A few moments later Rudiger reported his alleged harassment to the referee, Taylor, after the game was stopped. Rudiger warned that there was racist behavior among the audience that interfered with the game.
Chelsea said in a statement late Monday about the Son incident: “We are aware of the alleged racist incident involving Chelsea supporters in yesterday’s match. The Chelsea Football Club will not tolerate any form of racism and there is also no place in this club for anyone known to be involved in such behavior. If a season ticket holder or member is involved, we will take the strongest possible action against them including the prohibition. We will also support any potential criminal proceedings by the relevant authorities. “
Earlier on Monday night, the Premier League released a statement that said: “The Premier League and our club will not tolerate discrimination in any form. If people are known to racially harass, Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea or Heung-Min Son from Tottenham Hotspur, they deserve to be punished We will support Tottenham Hotspur FC and Chelsea FC in their pursuit of perpetrators and call for appropriate action to be taken by the authorities and the club We appreciate the millions of supporters who helped create a positive Premier League atmosphere and it has been explained that racist behavior or language cannot be accepted.”
