Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plan to bring Erling Haaland failed after the Norwegian striker prefers Dortmund and has signed his contract for € 20 million.
Haaland has signed a contract with Dortmund for four and a half years until June 2014. The 19-year-old player is the main target for Solskjaer, but MU is reportedly not meeting certain conditions of the agreement proposed by Salzburg.
Solskjaer flew to Salzburg to meet with Haaland earlier this month in hopes of binding the agreement but unfortunately the plan failed. Red Bull Leipzig and Juventus also reportedly want to bring Haaland.
The results of this failure will make the red devil coach is looking for several alternative players to be bought in the winter transfer market. Solskjaer really needs two midfielders to improve the performance of MU who previously had failed in many matches.
Haaland, who has scored 28 goals in 22 matches for Salzburg this season, will join his new team-mate on 3 January 2020, Dortmund. He will leave for a training camp this winter in Marbella.
“I had some intense conversations with the club management team, specifically with Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and coach Lucien Favre. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to move here. I can’t wait to start and play in front of more than 80,000 fans in the incredible atmosphere of Dortmund. I’m very happy. “Haaland said.
Watzke, Dortmund’s chief executive, said: “The club is happy to be able to fend off other clubs such as Manchester United and others to land Haaland.” Despite accepting many offers from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, Erling Haaland has decided that the best choice for his career is to come and join our project here at BVB. Our perseverance has paid off. “
Dortmund’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, added: “We can all hope to have an ambitious, athletic and physically-advanced striker here at the club. Haaland offers a beautiful game for impressive goals and speed. We are confident that we can develop it more far away in Dortmund. At just 19 years old, he was at the start of what was promised to pursue an undefeated career “.
So far, Dortmund is considered a better stepping stone for the future of Haaland’s career, rather than moving to Manchester United who are in a transition period.
Dortmund has proven adept at acquiring young players and making them shine in the years ahead. Like Jadon Sancho who is preparing to leave Dortmund at a very expensive price and make a big profit.
Sancho, who joined Dortmund from Manchester City for a transfer fee of only £ 8 million in 2017, is likely to later reach a market price of £ 100 million.
Manchester United itself has a longstanding interest in Sancho and is also being approached by a number of leading European clubs, including Liverpool and Chelsea.
