Indonesia officially launched its first Esports Association on Saturday (18 January 2020) to maintain professional gamers and introduce regulations for the domestic league.
The newly formed executive council, chaired by the Head of the National Intelligence Agency Budi Gunawan, immediately stated its aim to establish a world-class E-Sport training center.

The first E-Sport competition in Indonesia was during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. Then a year later, E-Sports became a medal competition at the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, where Indonesian players succeeded in bringing home two silver medals.
Budi added: “E-Sports will continue to be a disciplined sport at the Asian Games and will be introduced at the 2024 Olympics.
Among the executive activists of E-Sports who were just named after the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) politician, Sandiaga Uno, vice presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto in last year’s election and Sandiaga was appointed as deputy chair of the advisory board.
Sandiaga said: “E-Sports has great potential in this country, where there are 60 million active gamers. The value of the E-Sports industry has exceeded $ 1 billion and will continue to grow. “
He also said the direct task of the Indonesian sports management body was to make basic rules for competition in the domestic league.
